Boithoki Shruti paid tribute to late sitar maestro Pandit Deepak Chaudhury through a classical music concert at the Rameshchandra Dutt Memorial Auditorium of Chhayanaut Bhaban on Saturday evening.
The programme, titled “Remembering Pandit Deepak Chaudhury: A Tribute Concert”, brought together cultural enthusiasts, corporate leaders, families, young classical music listeners and veteran critics to honour the legacy of the maestro on his birth anniversary.
Pandit Deepak Chaudhury, a premier disciple of Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar and a noted collaborator of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray, was remembered through acoustic recitals reflecting the Senia Maihar Gharana.
The musical evening began with performances by young sitarists. Gopi Debnath, a disciple of Ustad Ebadul Huq Shaikat, presented a recital accompanied on the tabla by Poush Ram Sarker.
He was followed by fellow disciple Raquib Mahmud, who performed alongside tabla accompanist Sanjib Majumder.
The highlight of the evening was a performance by their guru, Ustad Ebadul Huq Shaikat, a direct disciple of Pandit Deepak Chaudhury and a sitar maestro at Chhayanaut and Shilpakala Academy.
His presentation of traditional ragas, marked by emotional depth and technical precision, drew strong appreciation from the audience. The recital was accompanied by tabla artist Pancham Sanyal, whose rhythmic exchanges added depth to the performance.
The event drew a strong turnout of university students and young listeners alongside senior members of the cultural community. The organisers said the response reflected growing interest among younger audiences in Hindustani classical music.
The programme was supported by Youth Engagement Partner TBS Graduates and Media Partner The Business Standard. Digital ticketing support from Tickify helped ensure smooth entry for the audience.
“Our mission at Boithoki Shruti has always been to preserve the pure, unadulterated form of Hindustani classical music and keep the traditional acoustic assembly culture alive,” the organisers said during the closing vote of thanks.
