DMP issues traffic guidelines for Eid travel to ease congestion

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a series of traffic measures to ensure smooth travel for Eid holidaymakers. In a notice issued on Sunday, DMP stated that trucks, covered vans, and lorries will be banned on highways from 25 to 28 March and for three days after Eid.

Several roads, including the Dhaka-Ashulia and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways, will have controlled traffic, with one-way diversions to prioritise outgoing vehicles. The Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes from the Airport to Gazipur will be restricted to outbound traffic only, while incoming vehicles will be redirected via alternative routes.

Authorities have urged travellers to avoid key roads, including sections of the Dhaka-Chattogram, Dhaka-Aricha, and Dhaka-Mawa highways, unless necessary. The measures were finalised during a meeting on 9 March, chaired by the adviser to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Ministry of Railways.
