The government today (18 February) announced a 36-day holiday for primary and secondary schools across the country on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and other religious and national observances.

All government and non-government primary schools and secondary schools (classes I-X) will remain closed from Thursday (19 February) to 26 March, according to separate notifications issued by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

The ministries revised the previously announced 2026 academic calendar and holiday list and issued separate gazette notifications in this regard today.

The notifications said the revised schedule was approved by the authorities amending earlier circulars issued on 28 December and 30 December 2025, concerning the 2026 academic year.

As per the updated list, the vacation has been declared on the occasion of the holy Ramadan, the birth anniversary of Sri Sri Harichand Thakur, Shab-e-Qadr (17 March), Jumu’atul Wida (20 March), Eid-ul-Fitr (21 March), and Independence and National Day (26 March).

Primary schools will also follow the same revised holiday schedule, said the separate notification issued by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

As 26 March falls on a Thursday, teachers and staffs will additionally enjoy the regular weekly holidays on Friday and Saturday, extending the break until 28 March.

The government earlier announced the annual holiday list for 2026, which has now been revised to accommodate the extended closure during the holy month of Ramadan and related observances.
