Kuet to remain closed till 28 Feb: Syndicate meeting

An emergency syndicate meeting of the Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (Kuet) authority has decided to shut down the university till 28 February amid unrest.

They have also decided to stick to its decision of banning politics on campus and permanently expel and revoke the studentship of any student involved in political activities.

The decisions were taken during the 93rd Syndicate meeting, which was held virtually today (19 February) afternoon, confirmed the university’s Public Relations Officer (Additional Duty) Shaheduzzaman Sheikh.

As per the Khulna University of Engineering & Technology Act, 2003 (Clause 44(5)), teachers, officers, and employees are also prohibited from engaging in political activities. Anyone violating this rule will face investigation and, if found guilty, will be terminated from their position.

Students found engaging in politics will be permanently expelled and will have their studentship revoked following an investigation.

Also, regarding yesterday’s incident the university authority said they will take legal action against outsiders involved in recent incidents of violence and students directly involved in the attack will be temporarily suspended.

A four-member committee has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. The committee is required to submit a report within three working days.

Also the syndicate decided the Khulna Divisional Commissioner will oversee and implement necessary security measures on campus.

The university administration will bear all medical expenses for students injured during the recent incident.

The Kuet authorities have urged all students, faculty, and staff to strictly abide by university regulations and help maintain a peaceful academic environment. They have also warned that any further violations will lead to strict disciplinary and legal actions.
