Lionel Messi has donated €80,000 to support the reconstruction of Spain’s wildfire-ravaged Sierra Oeste region, helping communities affected by the recent blaze in the Madrid area.

The donation was announced by Madrid regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who thanked the Argentine football star for his contribution.

“Messi has donated €80,000 for the reconstruction of Madrid’s Sierra Oeste region,” Ayuso wrote on social media, adding that the people of Madrid hoped to welcome him soon and applaud him for his generosity.

The Sierra Oeste region has suffered extensive damage from wildfires that burned for nearly two weeks. Although the blaze is now under control, authorities say recovery efforts are ongoing.

Emergency teams continue to monitor the affected areas to prevent fresh flare-ups, while firefighters remain on watch for lingering hotspots, particularly around the San Juan reservoir.

Access is still restricted to seven residential areas in Pelayos de la Presa and San Martín de Valdeiglesias. The San Juan reservoir, Alberche beach and a six-kilometre stretch of the M-957 road also remain closed as recovery work continues.
