National University has signed a memorandum of understanding with Brain System Limited to offer basic artificial intelligence training without tuition fees to students of its affiliated colleges and institutions, alongside opportunities for advanced training, research, internships and employment.

The agreement was signed at the university’s city office in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi on 17 October, according to the press release.

National University Registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hosen and Brain System Limited Chairman Dayal Kumar Barua signed on behalf of their respective institutions.

Under the agreement, students will be offered a basic course to develop their understanding, awareness and practical skills in artificial intelligence (AI).

Although no training fee will be charged for the basic course, a nominal registration fee may be introduced with the agreement of both parties.

Advanced AI courses and specialised training will also be available to interested students. Fees and conditions for these programmes will be determined through discussions between the two institutions.

The partnership aims to strengthen students’ professional and technical skills while helping them prepare for the changing demands of the job market.

The two institutions plan to review and update curricula in line with industry needs, conduct joint research on labour market trends and skills requirements, and organise training programmes and workshops.

They will also work to provide students with practical workplace experience and create opportunities for internships and employment. Certificates will be awarded on completion of training to recognise students’ skills.

National University said this was its first agreement of this kind with an AI company.

The initiative is expected to expand access to technology-related skills for students at affiliated colleges, strengthen links between higher education and industry, and help develop a workforce equipped for a changing labour market.

National University Communications Expert Gautam Barua and International Desk Director Raj Bin Kasem also attended the signing ceremony.

Brain System Limited was additionally represented by Managing Director Sakhawat Hossain and Director SK Tarek.
