2 DU students get IEEE-EDS Fellowship for the first time in Bangladesh

For the first time in Bangladesh, two students from the University of Dhaka (DU) have been awarded the prestigious IEEE Electron Devices Society (EDS) Fellowship. Yasin Arafat Pritom and Nazmul Hasan Naime, from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), received the fellowship at the undergraduate and master’s levels, respectively.

According to a DU press release on Thursday (13 February), the students were selected for the 2023 and 2024 fellowship cycles. The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Niaz Ahmad Khan, presented them with the award on Wednesday.

This highly competitive fellowship recognises outstanding research skills in electron devices. Yasin was the sole global recipient of the IEEE-EDS Undergraduate Fellowship in 2023, while Nazmul was among three master’s recipients worldwide in 2024.

Nazmul is researching negative capacitance FET-based gas sensor modelling, aiming to create highly sensitive and efficient sensors. Yasin is exploring machine learning applications in nanoscale FET architecture design and simulation for semiconductor advancements.

Their mentor, Associate Professor Dr Mainul Hossain, specialises in low-power computing, biosensing, and energy harvesting. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Bangladesh, showcasing its growing presence in semiconductor research on the global stage.
