A rare 700kg albino buffalo nicknamed Donald Trump has gone viral across Bangladesh, drawing large crowds and international curiosity after a television report sparked widespread attention on social media.
The buffalo, owned by farmer Ziauddin Midha and kept at a farm in Narayanganj, rose to fame following a report broadcast on 10 May by NEWS24. The animal’s unusual albino colouring and distinctive tuft of light-coloured hair led to its tongue-in-cheek name, which quickly captured public imagination.
Since the report aired, the buffalo has become a local attraction, with visitors travelling from different parts of the country to see it, take photographs and record videos for platforms such as TikTok and Facebook. The farm has seen a steady stream of curious onlookers, turning the animal into an unexpected internet celebrity.
According to the report, the buffalo’s name and striking appearance have also attracted the interest of the United States Embassy in Bangladesh. Embassy officials have reportedly expressed interest in visiting the farm to see the animal in person, although no official date for such a visit has yet been confirmed.
Speaking to local media, the owner said the buffalo is calm by nature and had not drawn particular attention before the television report. Its sudden fame, however, has made it a topic of discussion both online and offline, highlighting the power of social media and broadcast news in amplifying unusual local stories.
