Budget-friendly ways to make your mother feel like a queen

Let’s admit it: on this Mother’s Day, you want to give your mother pure royal vibes. You have a plan to make your mother feel special, but your wallet says, no! no fancy restaurant visit, nor even a surprise vacation. Just vibes and an empty bKash balance.

However, don’t get upset, here’s the good news for you. Mothers don’t care about expensive gifts; what they really desire is to feel seen, appreciated and loved.

So, on this Mother’s Day, if you have a budget under Tk500 (or maybe just some emotional currency), this article is for you.

1. The classic handwritten letter (still works in 2025)

Sounds pretty much old, right? Because who writes handwritten letters in this 21st century when you have Messenger, WhatsApp, email and a bunch of other options? But that’s not the point.

Write a letter about what she truly means to you. Be real and put your heart into it. Thank her for everyday things, such as making food for you, cleaning laundry, and the silent sacrifice. She might get emotional and tear up, but trust me, she will keep that letter inside her wardrobe for years.

2. Make her a meal — with or without skills

Whether you have never gone to the kitchen or can barely boil water, whatever it is, eventually, effort counts. To get references, watch a YouTube tutorial and try something out; it can be eggs, pancakes, tea or even instant noodles, arranged nicely on a plate. If possible, take the plate from the showcase which your mother barely uses. Now serve it with a big smile (and maybe clean up after).

3. Do her least favourite chores — without being asked

Here’s the magic formula, and that is a gold act. Clean all dishes, mop the floor, iron everyone’s clothes, or even organise the kitchen shelf. Our mothers are masters in this field, and they notice these small acts. And suddenly, you will hear, “Who did this?” But with a shocking expression and a little smile instead of a scolding tone.

On the other hand, if you somehow haphazardly do something while doing this, chances are high she will kick you out of the house. Because in her world, food, cleanliness, and home organisation rank just a tiny bit higher than you. (No offence. Okay, maybe just a little.)

4. DIY gift: Frame a memory

The cheapest but most memorable thing to do is, print one of your favourite photos of you both and decorate the frame solely by yourself. You can use cardboard, paper flowers, or even gold glitter pens. But it has to be nice, not just randomly putting all these in the photo frame. It’s a type of gift that your mother will proudly display in the living room.

5. Just sit with her: No distractions

Sometimes the best gift is time. The more we get older, the more we tend to get busy in our daily lives with study, jobs, side hustles and what not! Take a moment, sit beside her, hold her hand and ask how she’s doing. We completely forget that our mothers are human too, she was also once a little girl with stories, struggles and lots of dreams.

Put your phone on silent, let her talk whatever she wants, or just sit quietly beside her. She will remember this moment forever.

6. A mini home spa (the chill edition)

This might be quite challenging; mothers like pampering but don’t want to admit it, so eventually they don’t take care of themselves. Whatever it is, you have to take the risk.

Dim the lights, play your mother’s favourite music or any soft music and give her a relaxing hand massage or foot soak. For more, you can use ingredients from the kitchen, haldi and  honey face mask or a warm towel wrap. No need to organise fancy types of equipment, just your presence.

It’s never about the money

Lastly, you don’t need to spend all your savings or break the bank to make her feel special. Because it’s never about the money. What really matters is your genuine intention, the little gestures to let her notice your love for her.

So, this Mother’s Day, let your love speak louder than your budget. And if you really want to buy something for her, flowers, cake, and chocolate never fail. Just don’t forget to give her a tight hug!
