With tons of emotions, thrills, mysteries, and dramas; a movie can give us moments of amazement, inspiration, tears, or even fear.
Every movie has a different genre, tone, visualisation, and message that people can connect with.
“The Railway Children”, based on a novel of the same title written by Edith Nesbit in 1905, has an unforgettable story.
Before being made into a movie in 1970, the story aired as a mini TV series back in 1968 on BBC and in 2022, a sequel of the movie was released under the title “The Railway Children Return”.
The story begins with a happy family of five – the parents, Roberta, the eldest daughter who was mom’s favourite, the only son Peter who wants to become an engineer and the youngest daughter Phyllis, who always meant well.
The mother loved spending time with her children, helped them do their household tasks, played with them, and created funny poems that made her children laugh a lot. The father was also a man with good humour and loved to play with his children on his off days.
It seemed like a fairytale, they had everything needed for a luxurious life with great surroundings.
However, everything changed in the blink of an eye when their father was arrested on a false acquisition. The three siblings and their mother had to leave their old place and move to a small village near a railway station with a question in mind, “will their father ever come back?”
Set up in early 90s England, the story shows a family’s struggle of leaving a lavish lifestyle in the suburbs of London to cope with a new community in a Yorkshire village.
With a number of ups and downs with some unforgettable experiences, this movie turned into a thrilling ride.
“The Railway Children” is an example of the power of storytelling. Originating from a novel to its transformation into a beloved film, the narrative continues to amaze all of us, bringing us into a world bursting with emotion, mystery, and resilience.
