DU decides to continue Honours and Masters exams as scheduled
Dhaka University has announced that the ongoing Honours fourth-year/eighth-semester and Masters final examinations will continue as scheduled. The decision was made by the respective departmental academic committees following consultations with faculty deans, coordination with the Office of the Controller of Examinations, and consent from examinees.
In a press release issued by the university’s Public Relations Office at around 7:00 pm on Thursday (4 November), it was stated that approval had been given to proceed with the ongoing examinations after appeals from general students and the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU). Students wishing to stay in the halls during the examinations will be required to apply to their respective hall authorities.
The statement added that renovation work is currently underway in several residential halls and that these activities will be prioritised. Students have been requested to cooperate. It further emphasised the importance of ensuring that all students are able to sit for their examinations, noting that DUCSU and hall union representatives should play an active role in assisting students with hall accommodation and related support.
On Wednesday, DUCSU demanded the prompt resumption of ongoing and scheduled undergraduate fourth-year and postgraduate examinations after the university extended its post-earthquake and winter break closure until 27 December.
Earlier that afternoon, a DUCSU delegation led by General Secretary S M Farhad submitted a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan at the administrative building.
The memorandum stated that the earthquake and the extended winter break could prevent a small number of students—who are waiting to sit for their remaining examinations—from participating in government and private job recruitment tests. To protect the academic progress of these students, DUCSU urged the immediate continuation of fourth-year and postgraduate examinations.
