Shakib back in selection frame as BCB signals possible return
Bangladesh Cricket Board has indicated that Shakib Al Hasan could return to the national set-up from the upcoming series, provided certain conditions are met.
Speaking after an emergency board meeting on Saturday night, Media Committee Chairman Amjad Hossain said the decision was taken unanimously.
According to him, Shakib’s inclusion will depend on three key factors: his availability, match fitness, and ability to travel and remain present at designated venues.
“If he meets those criteria,” Amjad said, “the board and the selection panel will consider him for future squads.” He also confirmed that the board is prepared to grant a No Objection Certificate if Shakib seeks to feature in global franchise tournaments.
In a further sign of intent, the board has extended a fresh central contract offer to the veteran all-rounder. However, his ongoing legal matters remain unresolved. BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul is expected to discuss those issues with the government to determine a way forward.
Board director Asif explained that Shakib’s name surfaced during discussions over the list of 27 centrally contracted players across Grades A, B and C. During that meeting, a director proposed that Shakib had expressed interest in returning to international cricket and had already communicated his desire to play.
“The president has been requested to consult the government regarding his situation,” Asif said. “His personal matters are separate, and it is up to the authorities to decide how to address them. From the board’s perspective, however, we are keen to have him back.”
Shakib last represented Bangladesh on 1 October last year. Since then, a combination of circumstances has kept him away from the national side and prevented his return to the country.
