House of Cards showrunner and Andor writer Beau Willimon has been hired to write the script, and the project is expected to be a large-scale “Dune-sized” fantasy film based on George R.R. Martin’s world. HBO is also reportedly working on a TV series based on the same historical event.

According to the Guardian, The announcement comes as Martin continues writing The Winds of Winter, the long-awaited sixth novel in A Song of Ice and Fire. Interest in expanding the franchise remains strong, with multiple spin-offs in development.

Recent series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms became a major success, drawing 9.5 million viewers for its finale and earning a second season renewal. Meanwhile, season three of House of the Dragon is set to premiere in June.

Other projects tied to the universe have included a previously planned Jon Snow spin-off starring Kit Harington, which was later shelved, and an animated series titled Nine Voyages that is reportedly still in development. A Game of Thrones stage production by the Royal Shakespeare Company is also scheduled to debut this summer in Stratford-upon-Avon.
