ULAB Language Club wraps up “Decoding Talk: An Introduction to Conversation Analysis”
The ULAB Language Club successfully organised “Decoding Talk: An Introduction to Conversation Analysis” on 8 April, 2026 at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), offering participants an insightful exploration of the structure and dynamics of everyday communication.
The session was conducted by Dr Mahmud Hasan Khan, Professor in the Department of English and Humanities (DEH). Through an engaging and interactive presentation, he introduced participants to the principles of Conversation Analysis, a field that examines how meaning is constructed through spoken interaction.
Participants learned how subtle conversational elements such as pauses, overlaps, turn-taking, and response patterns shape interpretation and understanding in real-life interactions. Through thought-provoking discussions and practical examples, the workshop encouraged students to look beyond spoken words and recognise the hidden structures that guide human communication.
The session created a dynamic learning environment where curiosity was transformed into clarity, enabling participants to develop a deeper awareness of how language functions in social contexts.
The event reflected the ULAB Language Club’s continued commitment to promoting linguistic awareness, academic exploration, and meaningful dialogue among students.
The ULAB Language Club extends sincere appreciation to Dr Mahmud Hasan Khan and all participants whose enthusiastic engagement made the session thoughtful, interactive, and enriching.
