Rajshahi University hosts ninth MUN conference
The four-day Ninth Model United Nations (MUN) Conference has officially begun at University of Rajshahi. Organised by the Rajshahi University Model United Nations Association, the conference commenced on Thursday afternoon and will continue until 19 April.
According to organisers, more than 400 delegates from over 50 educational institutions, both domestic and international, are participating in the event. Over 60 secretariat members have been engaged to ensure the smooth execution of the conference.
This year’s theme is: “Establishing Economic Accountability through a Fair Market Policy Framework in the Context of Global Multipolarity.”
A total of eight committees have been formed, including the United Nations Security Council, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the Fifth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, United Nations Human Rights Council, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, International Press, and the Special Committee on Bangladesh Affairs.
Delegates are expected to engage in discussions on contemporary global issues, including market policy, economic accountability, and multilateral resource governance. Organisers said each committee agenda has been aligned with the central theme to deepen participants’ understanding of global affairs, international relations, peace, equality, and justice through structured debate and collaboration.
Speaking at the opening ceremony as chief guest, Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Md Main Uddin said such conferences play a vital role in developing students’ analytical thinking and leadership skills, preparing them to address global challenges effectively.
Professor Md Atiqul Islam of the Department of Economics attended the programme as a special guest.
The conference is being led by President Shubhrodeb Chakma as Secretary-General, with Chayes Talukder serving as Deputy Secretary-General.
Organisers expressed hope that the event will serve as a platform to enhance students’ knowledge and skills in international affairs while promoting constructive dialogue on pressing global issues.
