The Department of English and Humanities (DEH) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised its Spring 2026 Commencement Ceremony on 2 May 2026, celebrating the academic achievements of graduating Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Arts (MA) students.

Held under the theme “To Infinity and Beyond,” the ceremony highlighted the limitless nature of knowledge and encouraged graduates to continue exploring new ideas and opportunities as lifelong learners.

ULAB Vice-Chancellor Professor Shamsad Mortuza attended the event and addressed the graduating students, reflecting on the promises, challenges, and possibilities that await them in the future.

He said the Department of English and Humanities distinguishes itself by offering experiences beyond textbooks, fostering creativity, curiosity, and intellectual growth among students. Emphasising the values of liberal arts education, he encouraged graduates to think beyond disciplinary boundaries and realise their full potential.

The guest speaker, G M Humayun Azam, a ULAB MA alumnus and Manager (Programme) at Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), shared insights from his professional journey spanning more than 14 years in the development sector.

Having started his career in banking at HSBC before transitioning into development work, he spoke about his experiences in rural development initiatives, particularly in the WASH sector. Drawing from his background as an actor, musician, writer, and development professional, he highlighted the importance of balancing creativity with analytical thinking.

In his speech, he encouraged graduates to explore career opportunities beyond conventional paths, including roles in monitoring, documentation, and fundraising within the development sector.

He also emphasised empathy, adaptability, and understanding human experiences as essential qualities for professional success. Advising graduates to broaden their perspectives, he encouraged them to travel, engage with different cultures and languages, and develop practical life skills such as cooking, swimming, and driving.

The event also featured cultural performances by Mashiyat Hassan (BA 233), Samsun Rayna Ahmed (BA 252), Akhi Dey, and Prity Chanda (both from Batch 233).

During the programme, Scholars Programme student Husnul Jannat (BA 222) received her certificate from Scholars Programme Advisor Dr Md Mahadhi Hasan, alongside committee members Mr Al Mahmud Rumman, Senior Lecturer; Dr Mushira Habib, Assistant Professor; and Mr Sheikh Nahiyan, Lecturer.

The Spring 2026 Commencement Ceremony concluded with celebrations, reflections, and optimism as graduates prepared to begin new academic, professional, and personal journeys.
