Claims circulating on social media that undergraduate programmes in Bangla, History and Philosophy are being abolished are baseless, said the education minister’s Personal Officer (PO), Nurul Afsar Dipu.
Dipu told The Business Standard today (9 June) that the Ministry of Education or any relevant authority has not taken any decision to discontinue these departments or subjects. He added that the information being shared on social media is not accurate.
According to ministry sources, discussions on higher education reform and curriculum review are ongoing at different levels. However, there is no policy decision to stop undergraduate programmes in subjects such as Bangla, History or Philosophy.
The minister’s personal officer urged people not to be misled by rumours and to rely on official statements from the Ministry of Education and other government sources for accurate information.
Meanwhile, the ministry has recently indicated plans for curriculum reforms for primary and secondary education in 2027 and the inclusion of some new subjects.
However, there has been no announcement regarding the cancellation of undergraduate programmes in Bangla, History or Philosophy.
