Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) blocked Begum Rokeya Sarani in Dhaka’s Agargaon today (29 October), protesting plans to relocate the Secretariat to the old trade fair ground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, according to Prothom Alo.

Several hundred students blocked the road in front of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre at around 11:45am after gathering on the university campus from 10am.

The protesters chanted slogans, including “Shachibaloy sthanantor mani na manbo na”, “Aposh na shongram, shongram shongram”, “Take back, take back”.

Acting proctor Prof Mohammad Tajul Islam said the students were protesting to press home their demands but had assured the authorities that they would not engage in violence or vandalism, according to Prothom Alo.

SAU students have been protesting the relocation plan for several days.

Yesterday (28 October), they vandalised two structures under construction for fairs at the old trade fair ground. University authorities later intervened and took the students back to the campus.
