13th Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival to launch at ULAB campus
The 13th Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) will be officially launched on 18 June 2026 at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) campus. The opening ceremony will begin at 5:00 pm and continue until approximately 9:00 pm, bringing together filmmakers, students, academics, and industry professionals.
The opening session will feature a welcome address by Prof Sumon Rahman, who also serves as Chief Advisor of DIMFF. The festival will then present a “DIMFF Vision & Journey” segment, highlighting its development since its founding in 2013 and official launch in 2015 under the Department of Media Studies and Journalism at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.
Operating under the theme “New Generation, New Tools, New Communication”, DIMFF aims to encourage creative storytelling and inspire filmmakers to explore the possibilities of mobile-based cinema. The segment will be followed by a cultural performance.
A key highlight of the programme will be the introduction of the Dhaka Film Project Market, a new initiative designed to connect emerging filmmakers with producers. Through this platform, aspiring creators will be able to present scripts, while producers will have the opportunity to acquire film projects. The session will be hosted by Sohan Sheikh, Festival Director of DIMFF 2027, who will also announce the official DIMFF 2027 Executive Body.
The event will also include a festival promo screening and a showcase of winning films, followed by a short break.
After the break, a producer discussion session titled “Beyond the Box Office” will bring together producers from Roid, Malik, Bonolota Sen, The University of Chankharpul, and Rockstar. The session will be hosted by Mir Wadud Islam, instructor of DIMFF 2027, and will explore creative, production, and industry perspectives behind contemporary filmmaking.
This will be followed by a Cine’Ta Talk featuring acclaimed actress Nazifa Tushi in conversation with host Rubaiya Anhar Oishe.
The festival will conclude with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Syeda Sadia Mehjabin, Advisor of DIMFF, followed by an official group photoshoot with guests, faculty members, and volunteers. The evening will end with a cultural performance, marking a celebratory close to the launch event.
