National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Amanullah has urged the adoption of a model teaching system centred on skills development and labour-market needs to raise the standard of education across the country.

He made these remarks on Thursday at the inauguration of a day-long workshop titled “Development of Outcome-Based Education Curriculum” at the university’s Senate Hall.

“To make classroom teaching relevant and engaging, the current system must change. Students must receive skills-based education aligned with labour-market needs. Otherwise, we will fall behind,” he said.

Professor Dr ASM Amanullah emphasised that the National University, as a major stakeholder in the country’s education sector, must play a leading role in producing competent and skilled graduates.

Citing employment-oriented curricula in other countries, he stressed the need to modernise Bangladesh’s higher education system to address global challenges.

“Through an outcome-based education curriculum, we can enable students to acquire not only theoretical knowledge but also workplace-relevant skills and creativity,” he said.

The vice-chancellor said the university aimed to develop curricula that meet international standards and prepare students for both domestic and international labour markets.

He added that teachers would play a critical role in implementing the curriculum and would require regular training and familiarity with modern technology.

National University Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Ali Jinnah attended the programme as special guest. The university’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell organised the workshop.

Deans, departmental heads and curriculum experts from various faculties discussed the development, implementation and effectiveness of a modern outcome-based education curriculum.
