Meta launches its first image generation model called Muse Image AI
Meta has unveiled Muse Image, its first image generation model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, bringing a range of new AI-powered creative tools to Meta AI and its apps.
The company said Muse Image is designed to act as a creative partner, allowing users to generate high-quality images from simple text prompts. Users can also edit existing photos, create graphics with readable text, and share their creations directly to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other platforms.
The new model is now available through Meta AI. It also powers more than 30 new AI effects for Instagram Stories and enables image generation in Meta AI chats on WhatsApp, with the feature initially rolling out in selected countries before expanding further.
Meta said users can create images by describing what they want in everyday language. They can ask the AI to place them in front of famous landmarks, remove unwanted people from photographs, generate infographics with clear text, or even create functional QR codes.
To make image creation easier, Meta AI now includes a library of suggested presets. These allow users to restore old family photographs, experiment with trending hairstyles, transform themselves into clay animation characters or appear as classic 16-bit video game heroes with a single tap.
The company is also introducing AI-powered room redesigns. Users can upload a photo of their room and ask Meta AI to redesign it using real products from the web or Facebook Marketplace, based on a chosen style or current design trends.
According to Meta, Muse Image works alongside its Muse Spark reasoning model. Before generating an image, the system plans the layout, gathers relevant real-time information from the web when needed, and combines multiple visual references to produce more accurate results. This allows users to create more complex images, such as placing a pet inside a famous painting or combining multiple photographs into a personalised postcard.
Another new feature lets users mention public Instagram accounts within the Meta AI app. By tagging an account, users can incorporate public images from that profile into AI-generated visuals, making it easier to create invitations, collaborative concepts and personalised graphics. Meta said users can choose whether their public content can be used for this feature through a dedicated privacy setting.
Muse Image also introduces an improved editing experience. Users can draw, circle or annotate directly on an image to highlight changes they want, while Meta AI remembers previous instructions, allowing images to be refined without starting over.
Looking ahead, Meta said Muse Image will expand to more countries and additional services, including Facebook, Messenger and more areas of Instagram and WhatsApp. The company also plans to make the technology available to advertisers and agencies through Advantage+ creative in the coming weeks.
Muse Image is available free for everyday use through Meta AI, while higher usage limits will be offered through Meta’s subscription plans.
