The Asian University for Women (AUW), with support from Chevron Bangladesh, inaugurated its Math and Science Summer School 2026 in Chattogram on 20 July.

The four-week programme brings together 104 female students from across Bangladesh to develop their knowledge and skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), according to a press release.

Participants will study mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer coding and public health through classroom instruction and practical learning activities.

The courses will be taught by local and international instructors affiliated with institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Oxford, American University in Dubai and the University of Chattogram.

Chevron Bangladesh has supported the programme since 2019. More than 380 young women completed the summer school between 2019 and 2025, the release said.

Eric M Walker, President and Managing Director of Chevron Bangladesh, attended the inauguration as chief guest.

“The future of STEM is not somewhere else. The future of STEM is right here, in this room,” he told the students.

“When young women are encouraged to dream boldly and pursue their interests in science and technology, there is no limit to what they can accomplish.”

Muhammad Imrul Kabir, Director of Corporate Affairs at Chevron Bangladesh, attended as special guest.

Other Chevron representatives included AKM Arif Akhter, Head of Community Engagement and Sustainability; Ali Ashraf Choudhury, Adviser for Community Engagement and Sustainability; MA Raquib, Field Corporate Affairs Adviser; and Md Rashedul Alam, Dhaka Security Coordinator.

AUW was represented by Interim Vice-Chancellor Sangita Rayamajhi; Haseena Khan, Director of the Antimicrobial Research Centre; and Mohiuddin Ahsanul Kabir Chowdhury, Director of the AUW Math and Science Summer School.
