The International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has inaugurated four new chapters under the IEEE IUBAT Student Branch, expanding opportunities for students to engage in research, innovation, leadership and professional development.

The newly launched bodies are the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) Student Branch Chapter, IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) Student Branch Chapter, IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Student Branch Chapter, and the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group.

The new chapters join the existing IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter, strengthening the IEEE IUBAT Student Branch and creating greater opportunities for students to participate in research, technical activities, interdisciplinary projects, industry collaboration, entrepreneurship, humanitarian initiatives and global professional networking.

The inauguration ceremony featured addresses by Professor Celia Shahnaz, Professor Shaikh Anwarul Fattah and Professor M Firoz Mridha, who highlighted the role of professional societies in developing students’ technical knowledge, leadership skills, research capabilities and international connections.

The event was also attended by Professor Selina Nargis, Treasurer of IUBAT; Professor Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Professor Dewan Muhammad Nuruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Professor Utpal Kanti Das, Dean of the School of Computer Science and Engineering; and Dr Khadiza Akter, Counsellor of the IEEE IUBAT Student Branch.

The university leaders reaffirmed IUBAT’s commitment to developing globally competitive engineers, researchers, innovators and technology leaders. They encouraged students to actively engage in research, technological innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, entrepreneurship and socially responsible initiatives through IEEE.

The speakers also urged students to use the newly established platforms to develop innovative projects, publish research, participate in international competitions and build professional networks with academics and industry experts.

According to the university, the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Chapter will focus on robotics, automation, artificial intelligence, control systems and intelligent technologies. The Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Chapter will promote interdisciplinary learning and research in engineering, healthcare and biomedical science.

The Computational Intelligence Society Chapter will support student activities in artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks, evolutionary computing and other emerging technologies, while the Women in Engineering Affinity Group will work to encourage and support women in engineering, science and technology through inclusive leadership and professional development.

The university said the new chapters reflect its continued commitment to providing students with opportunities to strengthen their technical expertise, leadership abilities, research experience and professional networks.
