WhatsApp has begun rolling out one of its biggest calling updates in years, bringing voice and video calls to WhatsApp Web while introducing new controls for group calls.

The long-awaited feature allows users to make and receive one-to-one voice and video calls directly from a web browser, removing the need to use the WhatsApp desktop app on Windows or Mac or rely on a smartphone for calls.

The Meta-owned messaging platform said the update is being rolled out globally and will become available to users over the coming days.

WhatsApp first introduced voice calling on its mobile apps in 2015, followed by video calling in 2016. Calling support later expanded to its Windows and Mac desktop apps in 2023. With the latest rollout, the feature is now finally making its way to WhatsApp Web, offering users greater flexibility across devices.

The update also adds more controls for group calls, giving users greater flexibility when managing voice and video conversations.
