BUP Research Society (BUPRS) has announced its 5th National Research Project Contest 2026, inviting university students from across Bangladesh to submit original research projects and critical essays addressing climate and environmental challenges. The contest carries the theme “Research on Climate and Environment”, with the tagline “Research Today. Restore Tomorrow” and the motto “Towards a Greener Horizon”.

The contest will run from 8 to 15 August, with the closing ceremony scheduled for 16 August at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), according to a press release.

The competition will feature two segments: Research Project Paper and Critical Essay Writing. The research paper segment will accept individual or team submissions of up to four members under two broad categories. One category covers science, engineering and technology topics, including renewable energy, green computing and artificial intelligence, while the other focuses on business and social science areas such as sustainable agriculture, carbon capture and pollution control, climate justice, green finance and climate diplomacy.

The Critical Essay Writing segment is open to individual participants and will accept essays of up to 800 words. Students can explore topics including environmental ethics, youth leadership in climate resilience and the role of technology in sustainability.

Participants must first submit a 250-300-word abstract containing the research title, five keywords, authors’ names and university affiliation. Registration fees will be payable only after acceptance of the abstract. The fee is Tk600 for individual research papers, Tk2,000 for four-member teams and Tk300 for critical essays.

Abstract submissions are due by 8 August, followed by confirmation and final registration on 9 August. Critical essays must be submitted by 11 August. All participants will receive certificates, while winners in each category will receive prizes at the closing ceremony.

BUPRS has encouraged university students with research ideas or strong perspectives on climate and environmental issues to participate in the contest and submit their entries within the stipulated deadlines.
