Argentine football legend Claudio Caniggia attended the grand finale of the “IFAD Pillow Chips Presents Dhaka Inter School Champions League 2026”, where Noubahini College, Dhaka secured the title with a 3-0 victory over BIT School.

Held at Fortis Downtown Resort and Grounds, the finale brought the former Argentina star and teammate of Diego Maradona together with young players from across Dhaka, according to a press release.

Caniggia interacted with the players, presented awards and shared his views on the future development of football in Bangladesh. His participation gave aspiring footballers an opportunity to engage with one of the sport’s most celebrated figures.

The tournament brought together 36 schools from across Dhaka, providing young athletes with a competitive platform to showcase their talent, develop their skills and experience organised football.

Noubahini College, Dhaka emerged as champion following its convincing victory in the final, while BIT School finished as runner-up.

The initiative reflects IFAD Group’s commitment to encouraging youth participation in sports and supporting their development.

Speaking at the event, IFAD Multiproducts Limited CEO Kazi Arif Zaman said, “We want to encourage the young generation to reduce excessive screen time and embrace outdoor sports. Football teaches discipline, teamwork, leadership and resilience.

“We believe corporate entities have an important role to play in creating opportunities for Bangladeshi youth through initiatives like this, and we hope to support young footballers in pursuing their dreams and realising their potential.”

Caniggia praised Bangladesh’s passion for football and expressed optimism about the country’s future in the sport.

He stressed the importance of quality coaching, institutional support and mental strength in developing players. He also highlighted the value of international exposure and competing at higher levels.

His message resonated with the participating students, many of whom aspire to represent Bangladesh on the international stage.

Ambassador of Argentina to Bangladesh Marcelo Carlos Cesa attended the event alongside representatives from IFAD Group, Fortis FC, Sportamagica and the participating schools, as well as coaches, parents and football enthusiasts.
