Prime Bank PLC has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) to support agricultural research through the bank’s Special Corporate Social Responsibility Fund.

The agreement will support a project titled “Climate Resilient Sustainable Crop, Fisheries and Livestock Development in Haor Agro-Ecosystem of Bangladesh”, according to a press release.

Chief Executive Officer of Prime Bank Faisal Rahman and Director of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System Professor Dr Md Hammadur Rahman signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions at the bank’s head office.

The project aims to enhance food security and strengthen the rural economy by developing and promoting climate-resilient technologies for crop production, fisheries and livestock management in Bangladesh’s haor region.

It will also seek to build farmers’ capacity through training and knowledge transfer, enabling them to adopt sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices.

Prime Bank’s funding will support research into locally adapted farming technologies and integrated scientific studies across key agricultural sectors.

The project will also provide farming communities with practical training and agricultural extension services.

Additional Managing Directors of Prime Bank M Nazeem A Choudhury and Md Ziaur Rahman and Head of Agro Business Shahana Pervin attended the signing ceremony.

Lead Researcher and Project Director Professor Dr Md Mojammel Haque, Associate Director of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System Dr Mohammad Matiur Rahman and Senior Scientific Officer Dr Paresh Kumar Sarma represented BAU.

Other senior Prime Bank officials were also present.
