British High Commission hosts reception for Bangladeshi Chevening, Commonwealth scholars
The British High Commission in Dhaka hosted a pre-departure reception for Bangladeshi scholars selected for this year’s Chevening and Commonwealth scholarship programmes, as they prepare to begin postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
Held at the British High Commissioner’s Residence, the event brought together departing scholars, scholarship alumni, representatives of the Bangladesh Association of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows, the Chevening Alumni Association of Bangladesh and partners supporting UK scholarship programmes.
The reception provided an opportunity for the scholars to connect with alumni and fellow award recipients ahead of their academic journeys in the UK.
Through the UK Government-funded Chevening and Commonwealth scholarship programmes, the scholars will pursue postgraduate studies at UK universities and join international networks of professionals and future leaders.
British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke congratulated the scholars and said the scholarships reflect the strong partnership between the UK and Bangladesh and their shared commitment to education, leadership and opportunity.
She expressed hope that the scholars would make a positive impact in their communities and professions after completing their studies.
This year also marks the first time HSBC has joined as a Chevening partner in Bangladesh, sponsoring one Bangladeshi Chevening Scholar.
