The Department of Public Health at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a seminar on the importance of public health research for medical professionals at Cox’s Bazar Medical College in August 2026.

Titled “Importance of Public Health Research for Medical Professionals: Quest for Greater Development”, the seminar explored the role of research in medical practice and evidence-based healthcare, bringing together medical professionals, academics, healthcare leaders and public health experts.

Dr Zenat Zebin Hossain, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Public Health at IUB, delivered the welcome remarks and highlighted the need for greater research engagement among medical professionals and stronger links between clinical practice and public health research.

Dr Bilkis Banu, Associate Professor of Public Health at IUB, delivered the keynote presentation on the role of research evidence in understanding health challenges, informing healthcare practices and addressing population health and development. An open discussion followed, focusing on public health research and its relevance to medical practice.

Dr Asma Chowdhury attended as a special guest, while Dr Aftab Uddin, Country Director of HOPE Foundation, delivered a special guest address. Additional Secretary Eng Jashim Uddin, Chairman of CUK, attended as guest of honour, while Cox’s Bazar Medical College Principal Professor Dr Mohammad Mozibul Hoque was the chief guest.

Dr Kamran ul Baset, PhD, Dean of IUB’s School of Pharmacy and Public Health, also attended as a guest of honour. Dr Maung Ting Neo, Superintendent of the 250-bed District Sadar (Medical College) Hospital in Cox’s Bazar, chaired the session and highlighted the importance of research and evidence in healthcare practice.
