The Center for Astronomy, Space Science and Astrophysics (CASSA) has opened a five-day workshop on Time-Domain and Multi-Messenger Astronomy (TDMMA 2026) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).

The workshop began on 7 September at IUB’s Digital Classroom, bringing together 25 participants from 12 institutions across Bangladesh, along with one participant from University College London.

The participants include 20 undergraduate students, four master’s students and one high-school student. Eight members of the CASSA team are also taking part in the workshop.

IUB Vice Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dean of the School of Environment and Life Sciences (SETS) and Head of Physical Sciences addressed the opening ceremony, which was hosted by workshop convener Dr Syed Ashraf Uddin.

Speakers at the event also discussed the possibility of IUB introducing BSc and MSc programmes in astronomy and astrophysics in the future.

The workshop, which runs until 11 September, is being led by visiting lecturer Dr Andrew L Miller of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics Asia-Pacific (ICTP-AP), alongside CASSA faculty and researchers from Yale University and other institutions.

The sessions cover a range of topics in modern astronomy, including electromagnetic transients and survey astronomy, gravitational waves, X-ray binaries, pulsars and fast radio bursts, exoplanets, and machine learning for transient classification.

Around half of the programme is focused on hands-on activities, giving participants experience with real alert brokers, sky localisation and classification pipelines.

The workshop will conclude at the ACI Centre in Tejgaon with participant short talks and a certificate distribution ceremony on 11 September.
