Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) won the first SUBMCS-CSWC LexAI National Moot Court Competition 2026 after defeating Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) in the final at the State University of Bangladesh (SUB) campus on 29 August.

The competition was jointly initiated by SUB and the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), and organised by the State University of Bangladesh Moot Court Society (SUBMCS) and Cyber Support for Women and Children (CSWC), according to a press release.

The Department of Law at SUB hosted the competition, which brought together 32 teams from 26 universities across Bangladesh.

The organisers described the event as Bangladesh’s first national moot court competition dedicated entirely to cyber law.

The competition provided students from different universities with an opportunity to engage with emerging legal issues involving cyberspace and technology.

Participants were assessed on their legal research, analysis and advocacy skills, with particular emphasis on issues relating to cyber law.

The organisers said rapid technological advancement and the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) had increased the importance of information and communication technology (ICT) while creating new legal challenges.

Against this backdrop, the competition sought to help law students understand emerging legal questions surrounding technology and prepare them to address challenges arising from an increasingly digital world.

The final round was adjudicated by a panel comprising former Appellate Division Justice Krishna Debnath, University of Dhaka Professor of Law Dr Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah and Supreme Court Justice Urmee Rahman.

University of Dhaka Professor of Law Dr Asif Nazrul attended the closing ceremony as the special guest.

Faculty members from different universities, participating law students and organisers were also present at the event.

The organisers said the competition marked a significant development in Bangladesh’s legal education and moot court culture.

They expressed hope that the initiative would encourage greater interest in cyber law and help prepare students for emerging legal challenges in cyberspace and technology.
