UAP hosts inter-university photography exhibition ‘Beyond the Frames – Season 2’
University of Asia Pacific (UAP) is hosting the inter-university photography exhibition “Beyond the Frames – Season 2”, bringing together young photographers from universities across Bangladesh on a common platform to showcase their creativity, perspectives and stories through photography.
The two-day exhibition was inaugurated today (7 October) at UAP Plaza and will continue tomorrow (8 October), according to the press release.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Professor Dr Abu Sayeed M Ahmed, acting vice-chancellor of UAP; Professor Dr GR Ahmed Jamal, dean of the School of Engineering; AHM Zadidul Karim, associate professor and head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE); and Md Masum Howlader, assistant professor of EEE and convener of LenScape UAP EEE Photography Club.
The exhibition has been organised to promote storytelling through photography, encourage creative expression and create opportunities for young photographers from different universities to exchange ideas and experiences.
This season features participation from photography organisations representing universities across the country. These include CUET Photographic Society, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Photographic Society, KUET Photographic Society, BUBT Photography Club, IUBAT Films and Photography, Jashore University of Science and Technology Photographic Society, and Noakhali Science and Technology University Photography Club.
Other participating organisations include BRAC University Art and Photography Society, Bangladesh University of Textiles Photographic Society, Bangladesh University of Professionals Photography Society, BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology Photography Club, and Daffodil International University Photographic Society.
The participation of these university photography organisations has transformed the exhibition into more than a display of photographs. It has created a platform for young photographers to share their experiences, perspectives and creative approaches while connecting with photography enthusiasts from other institutions.
During the two-day exhibition, visitors can view a selection of photographs by photographers from participating universities. The displayed works explore a wide range of subjects, including nature, people, urban life, architecture, culture and everyday experiences, captured from diverse perspectives. Through these photographs, visitors can explore the stories, emotions and ideas that extend beyond the visual frame.
Bangladeshi photographer Hasan Saifuddin Chandan is serving as the exhibition’s judge. The organisers described him as a pioneering street and documentary photographer and one of the founding members of MAP Photo Agency, recognised for his influential contribution to photography in Bangladesh. They also noted that he is Bangladesh’s first FIAP gold medallist and has served as a photography faculty member in the Department of Architecture at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet).
The exhibition also reflects the growing role of university-based photography clubs in nurturing creative practices among young people. By bringing photographers and photography organisations from different institutions together, “Beyond the Frames – Season 2” provides an opportunity to build networks, exchange knowledge and encourage collaboration among emerging photographers.
The organisers said the exhibition’s central objective is to encourage viewers to look beyond conventional photographic frames and discover new perspectives through visual storytelling. The initiative also seeks to strengthen communication, cooperation and mutual learning among photography clubs at different universities.
The exhibition is open to members of participating photography clubs, students, photography enthusiasts and other visitors. Over the two days, UAP Plaza is serving as a vibrant meeting point for the creativity, stories and diverse perspectives of young photographers from across Bangladesh.
