Jahangirnagar University (JU) has imposed a ban on the entry of outsiders to its campus and issued a set of strict guidelines to ensure a safe habitat for migratory birds ahead of winter.

The information was announced in a press release signed by Dr Mohammad Mohiuddin, acting director of the university’s Public Relations Office, on Sunday (25 October).

According to the press release, migratory birds have started arriving at various waterbodies across the campus ahead of the approaching winter. The university has already taken steps to make the waterbodies suitable habitats for the birds and ensure their safe movement.

To maintain a favourable environment for the birds, the university administration has prohibited outsiders from entering the campus. Teachers, students and other stakeholders have also been requested to observe the birds from a safe distance.

The guidelines prohibit parking vehicles along the banks of waterbodies, fishing and creating loud noises near the waterbodies. Activities such as beating drums, setting off firecrackers and clapping have also been prohibited.

The university has further prohibited intimidating the birds and dumping plastic bottles or polythene near or in the waterbodies.

The university administration has sought the cooperation of all concerned to ensure a safe habitat for the migratory birds.
