Team Neerava from the University of Dhaka (DU) has won the Power Policy Innovation Challenge 2026 with a proposal to connect community electricity grids with localised renewable-energy microgrids.

The competition was organised by the IEEE NSU Power and Energy Society Student Branch Chapter as part of the Power Policy & Innovation Summit (PPIS), according to a press release.

More than 90 teams from universities and institutions across the country took part in the competition, presenting policy-based proposals to address challenges in Bangladesh’s energy sector.

The competition began with an abstract submission round, followed by presentations from the top 20 teams. Six teams advanced to the grand finale, where they presented their proposals before a panel of judges.

Team Neerava secured the championship with its proposal on integrating community grids with localised renewable-energy microgrids to promote decentralised and sustainable energy solutions.

Team Power Rangers from the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) finished as the first runner-up, while Team Eco Fusion from North South University (NSU) secured the second runner-up position.

The proposals were evaluated by a panel comprising energy scholars, national policy advisers and clean-technology industry executives. The panel included representatives from various universities, Akij Renewable Energy and Automobiles, CrackPlatoon Charging Solution and Ulterior Engineering Limited.

The competition provided a platform for young innovators to develop practical policy recommendations on energy policy, renewable-energy integration and sustainable solutions to meet Bangladesh’s future energy needs.

The organisers congratulated the winning teams and thanked all participants for their contributions to the competition.
