Tagore University of Creative Arts (TUCA) organised a dance competition and prize-giving ceremony to celebrate Nazrul Year, highlighting the literary and cultural legacy of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

The programme, organised by the university’s Department of Dance, was held at Fazlul Huq Auditorium on Tuesday (3 November 2026), featuring creative dance performances, competitions and cultural activities, according to the press release.

The event began with a creative dance competition at 11am, followed by a prize-giving ceremony and special dance performances at 4:30pm.

TUCA Board of Trustees Chairman Robin Khan attended the programme as chief guest.

Among the special guests were Bangladesh Folk Culture Society President Mina Mohammad Nazrul Islam, a researcher and dance choreographer; recitation artiste Tito Munshi; and playwright Masum Reza.

The competition was judged by Dr Shoma Mumtaz, associate professor of the Department of Drama and Dramatics at Jahangirnagar University; TUCA Department of Theatre Head Dr Sydur Rahman Lipon; and Department of Music Head Dr Md Arifur Rahman.

Also present were TUCA Acting Treasurer AKM Delwer Hussain, FCMA; Registrar Md Monirul Islam Rintu; Department of Business Administration Head Sikder Md Anowarul Islam; and Director of Finance and Accounts AKM Moshiur Rahman.

Faculty members, students from different departments and senior university officials also attended the programme.

Addressing the event, TUCA Board of Trustees Chairman Robin Khan emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting the literary and cultural heritage of Kazi Nazrul Islam among younger generations.

“The works of Kazi Nazrul Islam are an invaluable part of our cultural heritage. His ideals of equality, humanity and communal harmony must be passed on to the younger generation,” he said.

“The university will continue to organise cultural programmes that encourage students to develop their talents and creativity.”

Speaking about the initiative, Department of Dance Resource Person Saju Ahmed said, “The competition was aimed at presenting the artistic richness, humanistic values and cultural diversity of Nazrul’s works through dance.”

He said such initiatives would help develop students’ creativity while deepening their understanding of the national poet’s artistic vision and cultural contributions.

Earlier, in August 2026, TUCA established a dedicated “Nazrul Corner” at its National Professor Anisuzzaman – Writer Begum Rabeya Khatun Central Library to commemorate the poet’s 50th death anniversary.

The corner aims to encourage students, teachers and researchers to explore Nazrul’s literature, music, philosophy and other creative works.

Through these initiatives, the university seeks to preserve and promote Nazrul’s cultural legacy while encouraging students to engage with his literary and artistic contributions.
