Pattinson among contenders for next James Bond
Robert Pattinson has reportedly joined the race to become the next James Bond, with the actor said to be among several candidates who have recently auditioned for the coveted role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pattinson is being considered alongside Callum Turner, Jack Lowden and Josh O’Connor. The reported screen tests took place in London over the weekend of 24 October, with Nicholas Hoult also mentioned as a potential contender.
Pattinson’s inclusion has raised eyebrows, particularly as he is already committed to playing Bruce Wayne in DC Studios’ Batman franchise. The 40-year-old actor is currently filming The Batman Part II in London, the same city where the Bond auditions reportedly took place.
His recent collaboration with director Denis Villeneuve could work in his favour. Pattinson joined the cast of Dune: Part Three, which is set to reach cinemas on 18 December. Their experience working together is reportedly believed to have been positive.
Over the years, Pattinson has established himself as a versatile actor through projects with filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan, Robert Eggers and the Safdie brothers. His role in Nolan’s Tenet (2020), in particular, offered a glimpse of his potential in action-driven and espionage-based films.
He also has several major projects lined up, including Nolan’s The Odyssey, A24’s The Drama and Primetime, alongside his ongoing work on The Batman Part II.
The search for a new Bond comes after Amazon MGM Studios took over creative control of the franchise in February 2025, following an agreement with the Broccoli family. The upcoming film will be produced by Amy Pascal, known for the Spider-Man films, and David Heyman, whose credits include the Harry Potter franchise.
Pattinson is no stranger to the latter, having played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), before gaining worldwide popularity through the Twilight series.
Amazon has yet to comment on the reported auditions.
The franchise is looking for a new lead following Daniel Craig’s departure after five films. His final appearance as the British spy came in No Time to Die (2021), following a run that included Skyfall (2012), the first Bond film to earn more than $1 billion at the global box office.
