Dhaka University (DU) has announced a new policy named “First-Year Student Scholarship Policy – 2024” for the academic year 2024-25.
According to this policy each first-year student will receive Tk4,000 monthly.
On Wednesday (26 June) afternoon, at the annual Senate session held at the Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building, Senate Chairman and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AS Maksud Kamal announced this in his budget speech.
While reading his written statement, the Vice-Chancellor said, “Out of more than 3 lakh applicants this year, 6,000 students have been admitted to Dhaka University. Most of these students are financially disadvantaged, with many coming to Dhaka for the first time from remote areas of the country. Due to financial difficulties and housing issues, many first-year students often become frustrated and misguided. To support these students, we have taken an initiative to bring them under the scholarship scheme. Consequently, a policy titled “First-Year Student Scholarship Policy – 2024” has been formulated under the esteemed leadership of the university treasurer.”
He mentioned that a scholarship of around Tk4,000 per month will be provided. Students with over 80% class attendance will be eligible for this scholarship.
A meeting has already been held with the Governor of Bangladesh Bank, who has assured substantial financial support. There are plans to hold meetings with top officials of various government and private financial institutions this July.
