Intercity trains resume stops at Rajshahi University after nearly 30 years
Intercity train services have resumed stops at Rajshahi University Railway Station after nearly three decades, offering students an alternative travel option and bringing the long-inactive station back into operation.
The Sagardari Express and Titumir Express stopped at the station on Sunday on an experimental basis. Students welcomed the return of the services with cheers, a band performance and sweets.
The resumption could ease transport difficulties faced by students travelling to and from the university. Students have long raised concerns about alleged exploitation by rickshaw syndicates and incidents of robbery, making accessible transport options an important issue for the campus community.
Initially, only the two intercity trains will stop at the station. The arrangement is being tested, and more trains may be included if the trial proves successful.
The trains stopped at the station for around four to five minutes before continuing to Rajshahi Railway Station.
The experimental arrangement marks a potential improvement in transport connectivity for the university, although the expansion of services will depend on the outcome of the trial.
