AAUB trains faculty on curriculum, assessment and quality improvement
Aviation and Aerospace University, Bangladesh (AAUB) held a day-long training programme today to strengthen faculty members’ skills in outcome-based teaching, curriculum development, assessment and academic quality assurance.
The Department of Aviation Operation Management organised the programme at Falcon Hall in Tejgaon, Dhaka, bringing together faculty members and academic officials from the university’s Dhaka and Lalmonirhat campuses, according to the press release.
Titled “Training on Outcome-Based Education: Curriculum, Assessment and Continuous Quality Improvement”, today’s (10 October) programme aimed to align teaching and quality assurance practices with national and international higher education standards.
Air Vice Marshal M Mustafizur Rahman, vice-chancellor of AAUB, attended as the chief guest and session chair.
Air Commodore Md Rabiul Hasan, dean of the Faculty of Aerospace Management and Entrepreneurship, delivered the opening speech. Assistant Professor Dr Hosnay Nasrin, chairman of the Department of Aviation Operation Management, welcomed the participants.
The training comprised four specialised sessions covering the Bangladesh National Qualifications Framework; principles of outcome-based education; curriculum design and alignment; learning outcome mapping and attainment; assessment using rubrics; and continuous quality improvement.
Professor Dr Syed Shahrier Rahman of the Department of Linguistics at Dhaka University, also a former additional director of its Institutional Quality Assurance Cell, conducted the sessions.
Other trainers included Professor Dr Mohammad Sarwar Morshed of the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, and Associate Professor Dr Naznin Sultana Chaity of the university’s School of Business, who also serves as additional director of its Institutional Quality Assurance Cell.
Through interactive discussions, practical exercises and group activities, participants explored ways to align course learning outcomes with programme objectives, develop effective assessment strategies and improve academic quality through systematic evaluation.
In his closing remarks, Mustafizur Rahman stressed the importance of implementing outcome-based education across AAUB to ensure student-centred learning, measurable academic achievements and continuous improvement in teaching and assessment.
He highlighted the need to build a strong culture of academic quality assurance to prepare competent graduates with the knowledge, skills and professional attributes required by the evolving aviation and aerospace sectors.
The programme concluded with the presentation of certificates and souvenirs, followed by a group photograph.
The university said the initiative reflected its commitment to strengthening faculty competencies, promoting outcome-oriented education and maintaining high academic standards.
