AIUB AI Lab

American International University-Bangladesh inaugurated its AI Supercomputing Lab at its permanent campus on Sunday (3 May).

AIUB Founder Member and Board of Trustees Chairman Nadia Anwar formally inaugurated the lab.

AIUB Founder Members and Board of Trustees members Hasanul A Hasan and Ishtiaque Abedin, former vice-chancellor and Board of Trustees Member Carmen Z Lamagna, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Saiful Islam, and Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Abdur Rahman were present at the event.

Speaking at the inauguration, Hasanul A Hasan said artificial intelligence is playing an important role in different fields and the new lab would open up opportunities for education and research at AIUB.

According to the university, the facility features advanced NVIDIA DGX Spark systems that deliver up to 1 petaflop of AI performance.

The lab will allow researchers and students to work with large-scale AI models, including large language models and diffusion systems, and support hands-on innovation in AI engineering.

The initiative will also focus on developing “sovereign AI” tailored to the Bangla language and local context, aiming to support culturally relevant technological advancement.

The lab is expected to support research in key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, smart cities and the textile industry.

AIUB said the initiative aims to strengthen Bangladesh’s AI research ecosystem, promote ethical AI development and equip future innovators with advanced computational resources.

Deans, directors, department heads, faculty members and senior officials of AIUB were also present at the event.
