Bangladesh has achieved notable success at the 9th International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2026, held in Shenzhen, China, where students from 57 countries competed in economics, finance and business case competitions.

Farabeed Bin Faisal won a bronze medal, while Jaif Bin Morshed made history by becoming the global champion after securing first place in the inaugural IEO Youth Talk competition, which recognises excellence in communication, critical thinking and leadership.

The Bangladesh Economics Olympiad (BDEO) also received a Special International Recognition Award from the International Economics Olympiad for its contribution to economics education, international participation and consistent performance.

The Bangladesh team comprised Farabeed Bin Faisal of Mastermind English Medium School (Dhanmondi Branch), Jaif Bin Morshed and Fariha Tasnim of Manarat Dhaka International School & College (Gulshan Branch), Pranto Ghosh of Mastermind English Medium School (Dhanmondi Branch), and Fayaadh Salehin Ahmed of Scholastica.

The team was selected through a nationwide process involving more than 48,000 registered students, followed by regional rounds, the national round, a national training camp and several months of advanced preparation under economists, academics, policymakers and business leaders.

The Bangladesh delegation was led by Md Al-Amin Parvez, Executive Board Member of the International Economics Olympiad and President of the Executive Committee of BDEO. Rafid Abrar, Secretary of BDEO, served as deputy team leader.

Md Mansorul Haque, Ambassador of BDEO, and Md Al-Amin Parvez also served on the International Jury Board for the Business Case Competition.

Led by Hossain Zillur Rahman, former adviser to the caretaker government, Chairperson of BRAC and Executive Chairman of PPRC, BDEO has grown into one of Bangladesh’s leading platforms for promoting economics and financial literacy while preparing students for international competitions.

The Bangladesh Economics Olympiad 2026 is presented by Pubali Bank PLC and BRAC Bank and powered by City Bank.

Congratulating the team, Hossain Zillur Rahman said the achievements at IEO 2026 reflect the potential of Bangladesh’s youth and reaffirm BDEO’s commitment to developing future economists, policymakers, entrepreneurs and business leaders through quality economics education.

The results mark another milestone in Bangladesh’s growing presence in international economics education and highlight the country’s efforts to nurture globally competitive young talent.
