The ULAB Debating Club, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Debating Council (BDC), successfully organised BDC Fundraiser 2026, a two-day Asian Parliamentary debate tournament held on 15–16 May 2026 at the campus of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).
The tournament was arranged as a fundraising initiative to support Bangladesh’s participation in the World Schools Debating Championship, where five secondary school students will travel to Kenya this year to represent Bangladesh on the global debating stage. The initiative reflected the debating community’s collective commitment to nurturing young debaters and strengthening Bangladesh’s international presence in competitive debating.
BDC Fundraiser 2026 followed the Asian Parliamentary debate format and brought together an impressive line-up of university and secondary school teams from across the country. Participating institutions included Brac University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), and North South University (NSU). Secondary school participation featured prominent institutions such as Ideal School and College, St Joseph Higher Secondary School, and Mastermind Dhanmondi, among others.
The first day of the tournament witnessed intense preliminary rounds as teams competed rigorously to secure positions in the knockout stages. Following highly competitive debates, the second day commenced with the four breaking teams advancing to the semi-final round, alongside the much-anticipated High School Final.
In the High School Final, Team “Karasuno”, comprising Mafroza Taharin, Aditya Wajed, and Sreyoshi Shaolee Kabir, emerged as champions after a compelling and closely contested debate.
The Open Category Final crowned Team “Not Applicable”, consisting of Ifat Rahman Maruf, Shahriar Kabir Rahat, and Adib Faisal, as the champions of BDC Fundraiser 2026, recognising their outstanding analytical strength, argumentation, and debating excellence throughout the tournament.
The event concluded with a prize-giving ceremony where Syeda Sadia Mehjabin, Adviser of the ULAB Debating Club and Senior Lecturer at the School of Social Science, awarded crests to the champion teams, celebrating their achievements and acknowledging the collective efforts of participants, adjudicators, and organisers.
BDC Fundraiser 2026 not only showcased competitive debating at its finest but also demonstrated the unity of Bangladesh’s debating community in supporting the next generation of debaters. By combining competition with purpose, the tournament successfully contributed towards empowering young representatives who will carry Bangladesh’s voice to the global debating arena.
