BRAC University welcomed newly admitted students to its Fall 2026 semester with an orientation programme featuring guidance on academic life, student support services and opportunities for personal and professional development.

The programme was held at the university’s Merul Badda campus yesterday (30 September), according to the press release.

Addressing the students, Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar said, “Now you have to decide how you want to contribute to the world… Every journey makes you unique.”

Speaking about BRAC, he added, “This is what BRAC is all about. Reaching out to the world.”

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury reminded students that freedom comes with responsibility. He encouraged them to ask questions, protect their academic integrity and use their education to make a positive difference.

Treasurer Ariful Islam said the university was proud of its scholarship and financial aid schemes, describing them as the most comprehensive among private universities.

He also announced that the university was introducing on-campus part-time job opportunities for students from this semester.

Registrar Dr David Dowland said, “This semester, we’re starting a master’s in medical physics, much needed, and a promising career route for graduates.”

An audiovisual tribute to BRAC University Founder Sir Fazle Hasan Abed was screened between speeches, alongside videos on the Residential Semester, health and safety, and the university’s academic and administrative leadership.

Members of the student club Monon sang the national anthem and presented a song and dance performance.

A student life segment introduced clubs and societies, mental and physical well-being facilities, and career planning support through the Office of Career Services and Alumni Relations.

Six students received special recognition certificates for their achievements.

Among them was third-semester pharmacy student Md Akheruzzaman, who secured second place in a poster presentation competition at the Dubai International Pharmaceuticals and Technologies Conference and Exhibition 2026 for an AI-based prescription verification tool.

Seventh-semester computer science student Navid Rahman was recognised for becoming champion of the Bangladesh Sports Olympiad 2026, an academic-style competition testing sports knowledge and trivia.

The other recipients were final-year electrical and electronic engineering students Md Shahariar Hossain, Tazwar Ahmed, Shadid Al Akib and Rafin Md Abrar, members of Team Scavenger.

The team won the championship at EWU RobotFest 2026 with a quadruped robotic system capable of monitoring hazardous environments.

Freshers toured the campus with First Year Advising Team mentors and orientation volunteers. A concert by Blue Jeans followed.

Head of Student Life Tahsina Rahman delivered the opening remarks at the programme.

The university said the orientation aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on quality education and Goal 10 on reduced inequalities.
