Team T-118 emerged champion of the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Inter-Batch Moot Court Competition 2026, while Team T-125 secured the runners-up position at the closing ceremony held on September 7.

Comprising Anannya Sarwar, Ayman Arib Ahmed and Tahia Tabassum Samanta, Team T-118 secured the title after progressing through multiple rounds of the competition. Team T-125, comprising Md Fuad Hasan, Kazi Sajjatul Haque and Muhammad Ishrak Ahsan Khan, finished as runners-up.

The competition also recognised individual and team excellence. Team T-123, comprising Sabab Rahman, Shifat Barirah Bente Hashem and Tasnim Ulfat Suchi, received the Best Memorial Award for its written submission.

Ayman Arib Ahmed of Team T-118 was named Best Oralist, while teammate Tahia Tabassum Samanta received the Best Researcher Award.

The final round was adjudicated by Assistant Professors Preeti Kana Sikder and Abu Bakar Siddique, and Assistant Professor Dr Abu Hanif.

Choudhury Muhammed Faiz Ul Haque Hashmee, Barrister-at-Law, Lincoln’s Inn, UK, Advocate BPTC-PGDL, LLM and LLB from the University of London, UK, and founder and lead consultant of Choudhurys & Associates (C&A), attended the closing ceremony as a guest representing the sponsors.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lecturer Anik described the event as one of the biggest inter-batch moot court competitions in Bangladesh. He said the competition had brought forward a strong pool of talented mooters and expressed hope that many of the participants would go on to become leading mooters in the country.

Assistant Professor Abu Bakar Siddique highlighted BUP’s growing achievements in national and international moot court competitions. He referred to BUP’s recent championship at the 1st SUBMCS-CSWC LexAI National Moot Court Competition 2026, along with the university’s achievements in the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

He expressed hope that BUP students would continue to achieve success and bring home more international awards in the future.

The 2026 competition featured a multi-stage process designed to test participants’ legal research, memorial drafting, legal reasoning and oral advocacy skills.

A total of 27 teams took part in the competition. Following the memorial round, 10 teams advanced directly to the preliminary rounds, while the remaining teams competed in an online qualifying round on September 4, from which six teams progressed.

The preliminary rounds, quarter-finals and semi-finals were held on September 5, followed by the final round and closing ceremony on September 7.

The competition provided BUP law students with an opportunity to strengthen their research and advocacy skills while gaining experience in responding to questions from the bench. Its successful conclusion further reflects the university’s growing culture of mooting and its focus on preparing students for national and international legal competitions.
