DU Cultural Society

Dhaka University Cultural Society will organise Borshoboron Utsab 1433 at the TSC premises on 21 April 2026 to celebrate the Bangla New Year with a colourful day-long programme.

According to a press release, the event, presented by Imperial, will bring together tradition and culture in a festive atmosphere marking the Bengali New Year. The programme will include a folk fair, traditional Boishakhi arrangements, a lantern festival and cultural performances.

The fair will feature stalls selling Boishakhi clothing, ornaments, handicrafts and traditional food items. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a nagordola, puppet show, bioscope and puthi recitation, recreating the ambience of rural Bengal in the heart of the capital.

Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr A B M Obaidul Islam is expected to inaugurate the event. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj is scheduled to attend as chief guest. Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Rezauddin Ahmed Stalin will be present as keynote speaker, while dancer Pramila Banajik and singer Priyanka Gop are also expected to attend as special guests. Managing Director of Imperial Health Care BD Ltd Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman will also be present.

Following the discussion session, members of Dhaka University Cultural Society will stage a variety of cultural performances. The programme will also feature band performances, including a concert by Joler Gaan.

The organisers said the event aims to carry the spirit, heritage and culture of the Bangla New Year to the younger generation.
