Saifuddin Ahmed has stepped down as proctor of University of Dhaka, saying he resigned for personal reasons.
He submitted his resignation letter to the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam today (10 May).
Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Saifuddin said he stepped down solely for personal reasons after serving in “an intensely demanding role” for the past 20 months.
“I now want to spend some time with my family,” he said.
“When I took charge on 28 August 2024 following the July Uprising, the campus was in a completely fragile condition. There was no vice-chancellor and no dean at the time,” he added.
According to him, the campus has since gradually returned to a stable state, and he believes his responsibilities have been fulfilled.
