Syed Al Farabi, an undergraduate student from the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Dhaka, has been selected as a Youth Climate Negotiator Fellow for the Youth Climate Negotiators Fellowship 2026.

Jointly organised by Youth for NDCs and UNICEF Bangladesh, the five-month fellowship equips young leaders with the skills to participate in international climate diplomacy and negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The programme includes specialised training sessions and simulated climate negotiations.

Farabi secured one of only 16 fellowship positions from applicants across Bangladesh, with the programme reporting an acceptance rate of 0.76%.

During the selection process, Farabi highlighted his work as project coordinator at Sohochor, an online personalised education platform supporting children displaced by climate change in Ramgoti, Lakshmipur. According to the organisation, the initiative has supported more than 150 students within a year, with participants achieving strong results in the 2025 Primary Scholarship Examination.

He has also been involved in community initiatives, including a collaboration between Sohochor and the School of Ghashful to distribute school bags on International Children’s Day, as well as an iftar programme with students of Chakar School, a mobile digital school run by It’s Humanity Foundation.

An alumnus of Barishal Cadet College, Farabi served as the institution’s Cultural Prefect during the 2022–23 academic year. He has been actively involved in Model United Nations conferences since 2019 and represented his college at the Dhaka University Model United Nations Conference 2022.

The fellowship marks another milestone in Farabi’s journey in climate advocacy and youth leadership, as he prepares to engage with global climate policy and negotiations.
