East West University holds seminar on AI and cybersecurity

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at East West University (EWU) hosted a seminar titled “AI and Cybersecurity in Industry: Why Advanced Skills Matter” on 23 April 2026 at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium.

The inaugural session was attended by Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at EWU Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shams Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering Professor Dr Ahmed Wasif Reza, and Chairperson of the Department of CSE Dr Maheen Islam.

The seminar featured a panel of industry leaders, including Founder and CEO of Knowtomation, Dr Zunaid Kazi, Director and COO of ACI AI Business, Mohammad Oli Ahad, Head of Information Security at Grameenphone Ltd, Md Showkat Ali, and a cybersecurity professional at Grameenphone Ltd, Mohammad Shahadat Hossain.

The speakers highlighted the growing importance of advanced technical skills in addressing modern digital threats and in using the transformative potential of artificial intelligence effectively.

They advised students to focus on building strong foundational knowledge rather than simply learning individual tools.

To this end, they recommended higher studies in artificial intelligence and machine learning, and cybersecurity to equip the next generation of professionals with market-ready expertise.

A participatory question-and-answer session was also held during the seminar, facilitated by Associate Professor of the Department of CSE Dr Mohammad Rezwanul Huq.

A large number of students attended the event.
