Eastern University (EU) organised an orientation programme for students admitted for the Summer Semester 2026 at its permanent campus in Ashulia on Saturday, 18 July.

Professor Dr Farid A Sobhani, Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, presided over the programme, according to a press release.

Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, Professor in the Department of Law at the University of Dhaka, attended as chief guest, while Professor Dr Md Hassan Kawsar, Member of the Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh, was present as special guest.

Addressing the students, Dr Borhan Uddin Khan encouraged them to develop a strong sense of justice, honesty, human values and respect for the rule of law. He also stressed the importance of critical thinking, logical reasoning and social responsibility alongside academic excellence.

Professor Dr Md Hassan Kawsar advised the students to focus on research, innovation and professional development, describing university life as an important period for personal and professional growth.

Md Abdullah-Al-Masum, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Gazipur and an alumnus of Eastern University, attended as guest speaker. He encouraged the freshers to use their university years to develop knowledge, professional skills and leadership qualities.

In his address, Professor Dr Farid A Sobhani urged the students to uphold moral values, discipline and humanity and become responsible citizens committed to the welfare of society.

Associate Professor Abdur Rob, Proctor of Eastern University, administered the oath to the newly admitted students and encouraged them to participate in academic, research and co-curricular activities.

Professor Md Shamsul Huda, Treasurer; Dr Abul Basher Khan, Registrar; ABM Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean of the School of Law; and Professor Dr Firoz Ahmed, Adviser to the School of Life Sciences, also addressed the programme.

Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, Head of the Department of Law and Convener of the Freshers’ Orientation Programme, delivered the concluding remarks.

The freshers were introduced to the university’s academic system, student-support services, clubs, co-curricular activities and campus facilities. The programme concluded with a cultural performance by students.
