The Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) Library, in collaboration with Turnitin, organised a faculty development session on Turnitin Feedback Studio and AI Writing Detection on 8 September.

The session aimed to strengthen faculty members’ understanding of Turnitin tools and promote academic integrity in higher education.

Gautam Raval, Customer Success Manager, Turnitin South Asia, conducted the session, which was attended by IUB Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Tamim, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Daniel W Lund, faculty members and staff.

The programme began with remarks by IUB Librarian Md Shahajada Masud Anowarul Haque, who highlighted the importance of academic integrity and the responsible use of artificial intelligence in higher education.

Prof Dr Tamim also spoke on the significance of academic integrity and ethical conduct among faculty members.

The session covered plagiarism and text similarity, factors affecting similarity scores, procedures for addressing plagiarism and Turnitin’s approach to identifying potential AI-generated content. Participants also discussed submission storage in the Turnitin database and considerations around opting in or out of content repository storage.

Faculty members were also introduced to the process of creating Turnitin classes and assignments, along with support services and learning resources available to users.

The session was hosted by Samina Chowdhury, Junior Assistant Librarian, IUB Library.
